AYSO Area C - section 8

Interregional play is used in Area C by several age divisions from 10U through 19U. Playing outside our local regions allow us to offer greater diversity with scheduling and keep things fun for the kids of our Area. When interregional matches are played, the Area rules supersede any local region rules and P&P and the matches played fall under the purview of the Area Director.

The Area strictly follows the guidelines set forth by AYSO and US Soccer, specifically with regards to small sided matches.

  • 10U interregional matches will be 7 v 7 and use a size 4 ball. Matches will consist of two 25 minute halves
  • 12U interregional matches will be 9 v 9 and use a size 4 ball. Matches will consist of two 30 minute halves
The substitution process for 10U and 12U follow the procedures set forth in the AYSO Reference Book:

Substitutions will be allowed on 4 occasions:
  1. Approximately halfway through the first half
  2. Halftime
  3. Approximately halfway through the second half
  4. as needed for Injuries
  • 14U interregional matches will be 11 v 11 and use a size 5 ball. Matches will consist of two 35 minute halves
  • 19U interregional matches will be 11 v 11 and use a size 5 ball. Matches will consist of two 45 minute halves.
Monitored Substitution will be permitted in 14U and 19U matches provided both teams have an Independent Monitor.

Independent Monitors:
Monitors can be anyone other than a team official (coach or asst coach). If a coach or assistant coach is filling in as a team monitor he/she/they CANNOT coach their team. Their duties for that match are to be an INDEPENDENT MONITOR.

Monitors SHOULD be, but are NOT REQUIRED to be a registered volunteer.

An Independent Monitor can serve both teams provided both teams are on the same side of the field (this is not the norm for our interregional play, but some 19U fields are set up this way). Otherwise both teams need to have their own independent monitor.

Monitored Substitution:
Substitution permitted by referee at any stoppage in play, per Law 3 of the IFAB Laws of the Game.

Procedure:
  1. The coach will notify the Referee or Asst Referee that a substitution is requested
  2. The Referee will choose an appropriate stoppage in play
  3. The Referee will permit the players being substituted to leave the pitch and upon doing so they become substitutes
  4. The substitutes will enter the pitch and at this point they will become players
    1. (This is important as now the player is eligible to take any restarts and also the way bookings are handled for players and substitutes is different)
  5. The referee will whistle for play to continue using the appropriate restart

  • Once the player(s) being substituted receive(s) the refereeā€™s permission to leave the field of play, they must leave by the nearest point on the boundary line unless the referee indicates that the player may leave directly and immediately at the halfway line or another point
  • The player(s) being substituted must go immediately to the technical area for their team
  • If a player who is to be substituted refuses to leave, play continues

The substitute only enters:

  • during a stoppage in play
  • at the halfway line after the player being replaced has left the pitch
  • after receiving a permission from the referee
If either team does not have an independent monitor, then monitored substitution is not to be used and the match is to revert back to the regular AYSO substitution periods (halfway through the first half, half time, halfway through the second half, and for injuries). This INCLUDES 19U.
